#howdyags Type Installation

This is a type installation project worked on by myself and 2 others. The assignment was to conceptualize and carry to completion a large scale type installation on the Texas A&M University campus. We were competing against about 10 other teams to see who could generate the most social media presence through the display of our project. Watch the short video above to see the project from beginning to end!

We began by choosing our word, “howdy,” the traditional greeting used on the A&M campus because we felt that it embodied the Aggie culture and would draw passers by. We sketched it out, scanned it, and created a 6 foot long vector file. We then printed it out, jigsaw cut the wooden base, and began rolling hundreds of colored paper tubes which we then glued on to the the base. We hung the installation from a tree in Academic Plaza, the center of campus where thousands of pedestrians cross through each day. We photo documented the entire process and the results and are pleased say that we generated the most social media presence and won the contest!
